Helping You Navigate Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery can bring the freedom you’ve been looking for, especially if you rely on glasses or contacts. Imagine reducing, or even eliminating, your dependence on eyewear and experiencing clearer vision day-to-day.
Our team knows laser eye surgery is a big decision. That’s why we offer comprehensive consultations. While it can offer life-changing results, there are important considerations to make before deciding if it’s the right choice for you.
We offer laser eye surgery consultations, LASIK referrals, and co-management plans, all designed to help you make an informed choice about your vision care. If you’re ready to explore your options, give us a call today.
Who Is a Good Candidate for LASIK?
While LASIK offers great potential for clearer vision, it’s not for everyone. The ideal candidate should meet these basic qualifications:
- Have realistic expectations about the surgical outcomes
- Be 18 or older (ideally over 21, when your vision is likely to be stable)
- Have a stable eye prescription (with minimal changes in the past year)
- Have corneas thick enough to support the creation of a flap
- Be in good general health and have healthy eyes
Understand the LASIK Procedure
Your cornea plays a crucial role in how you see, refracting light as it enters your eye. However, refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, can distort how light is focused on the retina, leading to blurry vision.
LASIK, or laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, is a popular, effective procedure that can correct these refractive errors by reshaping the cornea. During the procedure, a thin, hinged flap is carefully created in the outer cornea.
A specialized laser, programmed with your unique prescription, then reshapes the underlying corneal tissue to improve how light is focused. The flap is then replaced and heals naturally within a few days.

Is LASIK Right for Everyone?
Prairie Vision is all about patient safety, so during your consultation, we’ll review some conditions that can disqualify you from LASIK, such as:
- An unstable or changing refractive error
- High (degenerative) myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism
- Severe dry eyes
- Thin corneas
- Corneal abrasion
- Corneal disease
- Keratoconus (cone-shaped cornea)
- Advanced glaucoma
- Cataracts
- A history of eye infections
- Diabetes
- Pregnancy or nursing
Find Out if Laser Eye Surgery Is Right for You
Every eye is unique, and the best way to determine if laser eye surgery is right for you is through a thorough consultation.
At Prairie Vision, we’ll conduct a comprehensive eye exam, discuss your vision needs, and review your eye health history. We’ll provide clear, helpful information to help you make an informed decision.
If LASIK is suitable, we’ll refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist and monitor your recovery. Call us today to schedule your consultation and learn if LASIK is the right choice for you.
